Like all churches in the PC(USA), the Session is the governing body of a local church. FPC typically has 24 active elders who are elected by our congregation and called by God to serve a three year term on the Session, carrying out the work of God in our community of faith. These men and women are dedicated servants who lead by example and who strive to help the members of FPC find meaningful ways to serve God together.

First Presbyterian Church is a congregation of about 400 members who strive faithfully to worship God with integrity, educate God's people with creativity, make Christ's grace known in the community with practical expressions of care, and honor God generously by giving the best we have to offer of our time, our talents, and our treasure.
Our congregation celebrated its 157th birthday in 2012. Since its birth, First Presbyterian has been an active church, serving as the mother church of the Thornwell Home for Children and Presbyterian College. There are a variety of ways for people of all ages to grow in their faith and thrive spiritually at First.
God's love in Jesus Christ defines who we are, and we strive to enjoy that love, embody that love, and share that love as Christ's disciples for this day and time. We invite you to join us in helping make our congregation the kind of church God is dreaming of. The body of Christ is not complete without you.
